Supreme Court Expands Ambit of POSH Act, 2013
On 10th December 2025, the Supreme Court, in a significant ruling, expanded the jurisdiction of Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act).
- The ruling came in an appeal by a 2010-batch IRS officer challenging the jurisdiction of the POSH ICC at the Department of Food and Public Distribution, where a 2004-batch IAS officer was posted.
- She alleged sexual harassment in May 2023, filed an FIR the next day, and then approached the ICC in her own department.
