- On 10th December 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the martyrs of the Assam Movement on the occasion of Swahid Divas.
- He described the Assam Movement as having a significant place in Indian history and reaffirmed the Union Government’s commitment to Assam’s cultural and developmental aspirations.
- Swahid Divas commemorates those who sacrificed their lives during the Assam Movement.
- The Assam Movement was launched in 1979 by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and the All Assam Gana Sangram Parishad (AAGSP).
- The movement aimed to raise opposition against illegal immigration from Bangladesh into Assam.
