Supreme Court’s Directions to Streamline Adoption Process
On 20th November, 2023, the Supreme Court (SC) issued directions to all states and Union territories to compile data in furtherance of streamlining and expediting the adoption process in the country.
- The court was responding to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by "The Temple of Healing", advocating for the simplification of the legal processes involved in child adoption in India, given the reported annual figure of only 4,000 adoptions in the country.
- The Court pointed towards the Adoption Regulations, 2022 brought in by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development on 28-09-2022 which prescribes a specific procedure relating to children ....
