DRI Report on Smuggling
On 4th December, 2024, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) released its 'Smuggling in India' 2023-24 report.
- The report highlights that despite the ongoing efforts of multiple security agencies, smuggling of different items remains uncontrolled.
Major Highlights
Rise in Drug Seizures
- Seizures of drugs such as cocaine and methamphetamine, contraband cigarettes, and illicit foreign currency by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have seen a sharp rise over the past year.
- The agency conducted 47 cocaine seizures worth Rs 975 crore in FY24—more than double the number recorded in the previous financial year.
