SC Orders Nationwide Audit of Private Universities
On 26th November 2025, in a landmark move, the Supreme Court (SC) directed the Union Government, all States and Union Territories, and the University Grants Commission (UGC) to submit detailed disclosures on the establishment, regulation, and monitoring of private universities across India.
Background of the Case
- The directive emerged during the hearing of a petition filed by 23-year-old student Ayesha Jain, who alleged that Amity University refused to update her name in official records despite her providing valid legal documents.
