UN Security Council Backs US-Drafted Gaza Peace Plan
On 17th November 2025, the UN Security Council (UNSC) adopted a US-drafted resolution, securing 13 votes in favour with Russia and China abstaining.
Key Elements of the US-Backed Gaza Peace Framework
- The resolution endorses the US President’s plan, which enabled a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas to take hold on 10th October, 2025, following two years of intense fighting that reduced much of Gaza to rubble.
- It authorizes the creation of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to work with Israel, Egypt, and newly trained Palestinian police to secure the borders and oversee the demilitarisation of the Gaza Strip.
