India-Australia Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement (MMPA)
- On May 24, 2023, during Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Australia, India and Australia signed the India-Australia Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement (MMPA).
- The agreement aims to promote a two-way exchange of students, graduates, researchers, and business people, facilitating the expansion of people-to-people ties between the two countries.
- To facilitate mobility, a new skilled pathway named MATES (Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early Professionals Scheme) has been created specifically for Indian professionals.
- In addition to the MMPA, India announced the opening of a consulate in Brisbane, adding to its existing consulates in Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney.
