Bioplastics from Agricultural Waste
Bioplastics are obtained from agricultural waste such as crop residues (straw, sugarcane bagasse, corn husks), food processing waste (fruit and vegetable peels), and other organic materials by various processes.
The Process of Making Bioplastics
- Raw Material Collection: Agricultural residues such as corn husks, sugarcane bagasse, rice husks, wheat straw, or fruit and vegetable peels are collected. These materials are rich in biopolymers like cellulose, starch, and lignin.
- Pre-processing: The waste is cleaned, dried, and ground into small particles to extract biopolymers. Chemical or mechanical processes are used to separate cellulose and starch.
- Biopolymer Extraction:
- Cellulose-based Bioplastics: Cellulose abundant in crop residues is converted ....
