Chandrayaan-3 Mission
Chandrayaan-3 was India’s third lunar mission and its second attempt at soft landing. It was launched on 14 July 2023 using the LVM3-M4 rocket from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. On 23 August 2023, it successfully achieved a soft landing near the Moon’s south pole. India became the first country to successfully land near the Moon’s south pole. India also became the fourth country to achieve a soft landing on the moon after Russia (1959 – hard landing, 1966 – soft landing), the US (1966), and China (2013).
