Dr Jayant Vishnu Narlikar
- He was an eminent astrophysicist who challenged the Big Bang theory and collaborated with Fred Hoyle.
- His most important work was co-working on the Hoyle–Narlikar theory, an alternative to the Big Bang theory. Hoyle and Narlikar’s model offered a universe without a beginning or end. The Hoyle–Narlikar conformal gravity model of the 1960s was against the prevailing Big Bang orthodoxy at that time. Contrary to a universe formed by one explosive burst, their theory allowed for a steady-state universe—a universe that has lived forever with neither a beginning nor an end.
