Genome India Project
The Genome India Project (GIP) is a major scientific initiative launched in 2020 by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, aimed at understanding the genetic landscape of India’s diverse population.
In the first phase of the project, whole genome sequencing of 10,000 individuals from various regions and communities across the country has been completed, resulting in a rich and diverse genomic database.
- Collaboration: It involved collaboration among 20 major research institutions including IISc, IITs, CSIR, etc.
