Metagenomics is the science of studying the entire genetic material (DNA/RNA) of all microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, archaea, etc.) present in any natural or artificial environment (such as soil, water, air, or the human body). Unlike traditional methods, it does not require isolating and culturing a single species. Instead, it involves direct sequencing of all organisms from environmental samples.
