National Scheme for ITI Upgradation
On 7th May 2025, in a major step towards transforming vocational education in India, the Union Cabinet approved the National Scheme for Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Upgradation and the setting up of five (5) National Centres of Excellence for Skilling as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
Overview of the Scheme
Objectives and Focus Areas
- Transform ITIs into government-owned, industry-managed aspirational skill institutes.
- Train 20 lakh youth over five years.
- Align skilling programs with industry and local workforce demand.
- Address skill shortages in high-growth sectors like:
- Electronics
- Automotive
- Renewable Energy
Budget Announcement
- Announced under Budget 2024–25 and 2025–26.
Funding and Outlay
- Total Outlay: Rs.60, 000 crore.
