Venus Missions: Shukrayaan-1, DAVINCI, VERITAS
Venus, often called Earth’s “twin” in size and position, has been the target of many missions, primarily focused on studying its atmosphere and surface.
Shukrayaan-1 (ISRO – India)
- India’s first Venus mission, scheduled for launch in March 2028 via LVM-3 rocket.
- 2,500 kg orbiter equipped with 16 Indian and international instruments.
Objectives
- Study the carbon dioxide-rich atmosphere.
- Map Venus’s surface and geological structures.
- Investigate volcanic and seismic activity.
- Analyze potential for microbial life (following phosphine detection).
DAVINCI (NASA – USA)
- NASA’s major mission proposed for launch in the early 2030s.
