XPoSat – India’s First Polarimetry Mission
XPoSat (X-ray Polarimeter Satellite) is India’s first dedicated X-ray polarimetry mission to study various dynamics of bright astronomical X-ray sources in extreme conditions, launched by ISRO on 1 January 2024. It places India among the leading nations in high-energy astrophysical research.
Mission Objectives
- Study the polarization of X-ray emissions from black holes, neutron stars, pulsars, and active galactic centres.
- Investigate the geometry and emission mechanisms of high-energy astrophysical sources.
- Analyze magnetic fields and environments around compact celestial objects.
- Test fundamental physics concepts under extreme conditions.
