India and Sweden Move towards Strategic Partnership

On 17th May 2026, India and Sweden agreed to elevate bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Gothenburg to strengthen cooperation in trade, technology, security, innovation, and sustainability.

Strategic Partnership

  • India and Sweden adopted:
    • Joint Statement.
    • Joint Action Plan (2026–2030).

Joint Innovation Partnership 2.0

  • Plans to Establish: Virtual India-Sweden Joint Science and Technology Centre.
  • Areas of Cooperation: artificial intelligence (ai), 6g technology, quantum computing, critical minerals, space and life sciences.

India-Sweden Technology and AI Corridor (SITAC)

Objective

  • Promote collaboration in:
    • AI research.
    • Digital transformation.
    • Advanced technologies.
  • Strengthen industry-startup partnerships.
