India-Cyprus Elevate Ties to Strategic Partnership
On 22nd May 2026, India and Cyprus elevated bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership during talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Nikos Christodoulides in New Delhi to strengthen cooperation in defence, cybersecurity, education, and maritime sectors.
Major Agreements Signed
- Six agreements and MoUs signed in areas such as:
- Counter-terrorism cooperation
- Diplomatic training
- Innovation and technology
- Search and Rescue (SAR)
- Higher education and research
- Cultural cooperation (2026–2030)
Key Areas of Cooperation
- Defence cooperation roadmap for: 2026–2031 period.
- Cooperation to expand in cyber security, maritime security, counter-terrorism, space sector & health sector.
Economic and Connectivity Cooperation
- India and Cyprus aimed to: Double investments over next five years.
