Rising Atmospheric CO2 & Human Health
- According to a study published in Air Quality, Atmosphere & Health, rising atmospheric CO₂ levels are altering human blood chemistry.
- Historically, humans evolved in environments containing 200–300 ppm of CO₂, but atmospheric CO₂ levels have now reached nearly 430 ppm.
- The study found that blood bicarbonate (HCO₃⁻) levels have increased by about 7% in line with rising CO₂ concentrations.
- Respiratory and circulatory effects include respiratory acidosis, fatigue, and reduced strategic thinking ability.
- Effects on the renal system include chronic kidney overload, a higher risk of kidney stones, and possible renal dysfunction.
