New Guidelines on Green Credit Programme

On 12th April, 2024, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) released additional guidelines on its Green Credit Programme (GCP), refining its focus on ecosystem restoration rather than just tree planting, following the initial introduction of rules for afforestation two months ago.

  • The Ministry has tweaked an earlier requirement that there be a minimum of 1,100 trees per hectare to qualify as a reforested landscape and left it to States to specify them.
