Draft Rules for Gas Meters under Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011

On 14th April 2025, the Department of Consumer Affairs framed draft rules under the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011 to ensure accuracy, transparency, and consumer protection in gas usage by regulating gas meters used across domestic, commercial, and industrial sectors.

Key Provisions of the Draft Rules

  • Mandatory Verification and Stamping: All gas meters must be tested, verified, and stamped before being used in trade and commerce.
  • Re-verification Requirement: Periodic re-verification is mandated to maintain accuracy during the meter’s usage lifecycle.
