National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM)
Recently, the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), launched in 2020 by the Ministry of Textiles, completed five years of advancing India’s leadership in functional and high-performance fabrics.
Need
- Economic Significance: India's textile industry contributes nearly 2% to the country's GDP and is the 6th largest exporter globally, holding a 3.9% share in world textile exports.
- Emergence of Technical Textiles: Technical textiles are specialized fabrics designed for specific functions, serving industries such as automotive, construction, agriculture, healthcare, and safety.
- Growth Potential: The sector is projected to grow to US$350 billion by 2030, creating approximately 3.5 crore jobs.
