Standing Committee Report on Welfare of Indian Diaspora and Status of Emigration Bill
On 1st April 2025, the Standing Committee on External Affairs presented its sixth report on the subject ‘Indian Diaspora Overseas, including NRIs, PIOs, OCIs and Migrant Workers: All Aspects of their Conditions and Welfare, including the Status of the Emigration Bill’ in the Parliament.

Diaspora Policy
India lacks a clear, unified policy on the diaspora.
- The Committee urged the Ministry to draft a comprehensive engagement policy.
Data Collection
With approx. 35 million Indian migrants, the Committee noted the absence of reliable data.
- It recommended creating a real-time national migration database.
