Amaravati Declared Sole Capital of Andhra Pradesh
- On 6th April 2026, President Droupadi Murmu gave assent to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Act, 2026.
- It amends the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, providing legal backing to Amaravati as the sole capital of the state.
- The revised provision has retrospective effect from 2 June 2024, formally recognising Amaravati as the sole capital.
- Amaravati comprises areas notified under the APCRDA Act, 2014, ensuring clarity on capital region boundaries.
