India Elected to Key ECOSOC Subsidiary Bodies
On 8th April 2026, India was elected by acclamation to several subsidiary bodies of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), strengthening its role in global governance on development, technology, and social issues.
What is ECOSOC?
- One of the 6 principal organs of the United Nations.
- Coordinates economic, social, and development work.
- Oversees subsidiary bodies and specialised agencies.
Key Bodies India Elected To
- Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) (2027-2030).
- Committee on Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO Committee) (2027-2030).
- Committee for Programme and Coordination (CPC) (2027-2029).
Additional Election
- Preeti Saran re-elected to Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) (2027-2030).
