India Rejects China’s Renaming of Places in Arunachal Pradesh
On 12th April 2026, India strongly rejected China’s attempts to assign new names to locations in Arunachal Pradesh, calling them “mischievous” and reaffirming that the region remains an integral part of India.
What Happened?
- China reportedly renamed places in Arunachal Pradesh.
- Also created a new county near PoK and Afghanistan border.
- India issued a strong diplomatic response.
- India rejected China’s claims as “false and baseless”.
China’s Actions
- Renamed 27 locations in Arunachal Pradesh (earlier instance) .
- Created new county “Cenling” in Xinjiang region.
- Moves seen as:
- Strengthening administrative control, and
- Reinforcing territorial claims.
