India’s flagship National Rural Livelihood Mission, now known as Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), has evolved from a domestic poverty alleviation programme into a cornerstone of its development diplomacy, specifically influencing rural policies across the Global South.
Scale and Impact of DAY-NRLM in India
Expanding Reach and Participation
- By mid-2025, the mission had expanded to 742 districts, reaching over 100 million rural households and mobilising more than 9 million Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
