Project Him Sarovar

  • On 10th April 2026, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena launched Project Him Sarovar to address water scarcity in Ladakh.
  • The project aims to enhance long-term water security through scientific snow harvesting, improved irrigation, climate resilience, and creation of “green and blue assets”.
  • It involves the construction of 50 small water bodies across Leh and Kargil to store snowmelt.
  • The initiative addresses Ladakh’s challenges of extremely low rainfall and heavy dependence on glaciers and seasonal snowmelt.
