50th Statehood Day of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura
On 21st January, 2022, three North east States-Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura celebrated their 50th Statehood day.
The three States were formed in 1972 with the enactment of North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971.
Manipur
- In 1824, the ruler of Manipur entered into a subsidiary alliance with the British Empire in the Indian subcontinent, which became responsible for Manipur's external defence.
- The British recognised that the state remained internally self-governing, as a princely state.
- The Manipur State Constitution Act of 1947 established a democratic form of government, with the Maharaja continuing as the head of state.
