Draft Active Mobility Bill
- The Karnataka government has drafted a bill to ensure pedestrian and cycling amenities across cities.
- It is aimed at protecting the rights of pedestrians and cyclists to safe, accessible and connected pedestrian and cycling networks in urban areas in the State, with a view to promote sustainable urban mobility and build healthy communities.
- The bill holds urban local bodies duty-bound and responsible to design, construct and maintain a network of “complete and connected streets, with footpaths of adequate width and cycle tracks or shared paths”.
- Making provisions to inspect infrastructure works, the bill also prescribes penalties up to Rs 2 lakh on ....
