Startups: Towards Rural Water Security
- According to the World Bank, India's rural population is 0.91 billion, which is about 64 percent of the total population of the country.
- The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) ecosystem aims to ensure that every person has access to clean water and safe sanitation facilities, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
- According to data from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), there are around 1500 startups working in the WASH sector, more than half of which are located in tier-3 cities or rural areas.
