National Critical Minerals Mission
On 29th January 2025, the Union Government approved National Critical Minerals Mission (NCMM) to promote exploration of critical minerals within the country and at offshore locations.
Aim
- To reduce import dependence on critical minerals,
- Accelerate India’s shift towards green energy technologies.
Salient Features
- Coverage: The mission will cover all stages, including mineral exploration, mining, beneficiation, processing, and recovery from end-of-life products.
- Approach:Will adopt a "whole-of-government" approach, working closely with various ministries, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), private companies, and research institutions.
- Administrative Framework: Ministry of Mines will be the administrative Ministry.
