Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth
On 15th January 2026, Prime Minister inaugurated the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, Parliament House Complex, New Delhi.
- CSPOC was created in 1969 as an initiative of the then Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, Lucien Lamoureux.
- It aims to promote knowledge and understanding of parliamentary democracy in its various forms and to develop parliamentary institutions.
- The PM highlighted that Indian democracy ensures effective last-mile delivery of welfare schemes, which has helped lift nearly 25 crore people out of poverty.
