GeM Marks Seven Years of Womaniya Initiative
On 14th January 2026, Government e-Marketplace (GeM) marked seven years of the Womaniya initiative.
- The Womaniya Initiative, launched on January 14, 2019, was conceived to address the limited access of women entrepreneurs and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to government markets.
- By offering a direct, transparent, and fully digital interface between sellers and government buyers, Womaniya removed intermediaries and reduced traditional entry barriers.
- Over time, it has evolved from a facilitation platform into a national ecosystem of opportunity, enabling women-led enterprises to compete, scale, and build credibility in public procurement.
