JALAJ Livelihood Centres: Linking River Conservation with Sustainable Livelihoods
On 28th January 2026, the Ministry of Jal Shakti inaugurated 25 JALAJ Livelihood Centres at different locations in the Ganga basin.
Concept of JALAJ
- Symbiotic Linkage: JALAJ is a concept to establish symbiotic linkages between river and people.
- Model for Livelihood: It is visualized as models for livelihood diversification, through promotion of local produce.
- Strengthening Women Participation: These are aimed as models for strengthening women participation in ecological and economic spheres.
- Tools to Achieve SDGs: JALAJ models aim to support the SDGs by promoting nature-based solutions that address climate change while enhancing human well-being and biodiversity through ecosystem protection and restoration.
