In January 2026, the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) completed 9 years.
- PMMVY, a maternity benefit programme, was launched on the 1st January 2017.
- The scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and forms a key component of the Government of India's 'Mission Shakti' for women's empowerment.
- Under the Scheme, pregnant women and lactating mothers receive a cash benefit of 5000 rupees for the first child and 6000 rupees for the second girl child.
- The eligible beneficiaries also receive a cash incentive under Janani Suraksha Yojana.
