Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and loitering munitions are central to India’s technology-intensive, self-reliant military modernisation. India’s policy focuses on expanding unmanned ISR, precision-strike and counter-UAS capabilities, guided by public capability roadmaps such as Technology Perspective and Capability Roadmap (TPCR) -2025. UAVs enable persistent surveillance over land and maritime domains, while loitering munitions provide time-sensitive, precision strike with minimal footprint, strengthening deterrence, operational agility and calibrated response options.
