US Withdraws From 66 International Organisations
In January 2026, United States President signed an executive order withdrawing the US from 66 international organisations, agencies and commissions, triggering strong global reactions and raising concerns about the future of multilateral cooperation.
What is in the Executive Order?
- The order states that the listed organisations “undermine America’s independence” and waste taxpayer money on agendas deemed ineffective or hostile.
- Of the 66 organisations, 31 are United Nations entities.
- High-profile exits include:
- UN Women
- United Nations Population Fund
- UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
- UN Conference on Trade and Development
- Major agencies such as UNICEF are not included.
