Lithium ions are a vital part of the electrochemistry of a lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery, a cutting-edge battery technology.
- Lithium atoms in the anode are ionised and separated from their electrons during a discharge cycle.
- When the lithium ions proceed from the anode to the cathode, passing through the electrolyte along the way, they rejoin their electrons and become electrically neutral.
