White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV)
White spot disease (WSD) is a virus that infects decapod crustaceans and is extremely contagious. It can kill a lot of cultured shrimp.
- From its initial epidemic in 1992–1993, this disease has significantly hurt the economy.
- White spot syndrome virus (WSSV), a big, nonoccluded, enveloped, rod-shaped to elliptical DNA virus with a tail-like extension at one end, is the cause of WSD.
