Cabinet Approves Small Hydro Power Development Scheme
On 18th March 2026, the Union Cabinet approved the Small Hydro Power (SHP) Development Scheme for the period FY 2026–27 to FY 2030–31.
Key Details of SHP Development Scheme
- Aim: To install projects with an aggregate capacity of around 1500 MW across the country.
Focus Areas
- Promoting clean and renewable energy through small hydro projects with capacities ranging from 1 to 25 MW.
- Harnessing untapped hydro potential, particularly in hilly regions and the North-Eastern states.
- Strengthening energy access in remote and border areas while contributing to India’s renewable energy targets.
