IIED Food Security Index
On 23rd March 2026, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) published the IIED Food Security Index under the title “Food Security in a Warming World: Who Is at Risk, Why and What Comes Next?”.
About the Index
- It is one of the most comprehensive assessments of global food security, covering 162 countries.
- It evaluates four dimensions- availability, access, nutrition, and resilience, under current conditions and across 1.5°C, 2°C, and 4°C warming scenarios.
Key Findings
Uneven Distribution
- Food insecurity varies widely. Global average is 6.74/10; Iceland tops at 9.26, while Somalia lags at 1.29.
