Ningol Van Initiative
- On 21st March 2026, on the occasion of the International Day of Forests, the Government of Manipur renewed its focus on protecting forests, preventing deforestation, and curbing illegal activities, including poppy cultivation.
- A key highlight of the observance was the launch of the “Ningol Van Initiative”, aimed at strengthening community participation in forest conservation.
- “Ningol” highlights women as custodians of nature.
- The initiative will be expanded across all 16 districts.
- Over 74% of Manipur’s area is under forest cover.
- Forests support livelihoods and food security in the state.
- 11 micro food-processing units set up under Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs). ....
