Resolution for Inclusion of Mizo Language in Eighth Schedule
- On 9th March 2026, the Mizoram Legislative Assembly adopted a resolution for including Mizo language in the Eighth Schedule.
- The resolution was unanimously passed by members of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly.
- The resolution seeks constitutional recognition for the Mizo language.
- Concerns were raised about possible impact on Scheduled Tribe status of Mizos.
- The Chief Minister clarified Mizos remain Scheduled Tribe under the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes Order), 1950.
- He suggested making the entire state a Scheduled Area under the Sixth Schedule.
