Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA)

  • Launched in 1997, it is an international organisation consisting of 23 states bordering the Indian Ocean.
  • Principles of IORA: Open Regionalism for strengthening Economic Cooperation particularly on Trade Facilitation and Investment, Promotion as well as Social Development of the region for promoting intra-regional economic cooperation and development.
  • IORA has also devised flagship initiatives such as the Indian Ocean Dialogue, which is held annually as a track 1.5 event encouraging an open and free flowing dialogue by key representatives of IORA Member States on a number of crucial strategic issues of the Indian Ocean Region.
