Inauguration of the National Makhana Board in Purnia
- On 14th September 2025, the central government issued a notification for the establishment of the National Makhana Board in Purnia, Bihar.
- This is a historic initiative, first proposed in the Union Budget 2025.
- Makhana, also known as Fox Nut, is a nutrient-rich superfood primarily cultivated in the Seemanchal and Mithilanchal regions of Bihar.
- Its sowing season is from March to April, and harvesting takes place between August and September.
