Sawalkote Hydroelectric Project
Recently, following the suspension of Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) in 2025, the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) is now reviewing environmental clearance for the Sawalkote Dam on the Chenab River.
- Sawalkote hydroelectric project is a 1,856 MW run-of-river hydroelectric project featuring a concrete gravity dam, poised to become the largest in Jammu & Kashmir.
- It is under construction on the Chenab River in the Ramban district, featuring a 550 MCM reservoir.
- The project is being carried out in two phases by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).
