Sushila Karki Becomes Nepal’s First Woman PM
On 12th September 2025, Sushila Karki, Nepal’s former Chief Justice, took oath as the country’s interim Prime Minister, making history as the first woman to hold the top executive office.
- Sushila Karki was administered the oath of office by President Ramchandra Paudel at a formal ceremony held at Sheetal Niwas, the presidential residence in Kathmandu.
- Her appointment as interim Prime Minister followed the resignation of KP Sharma Oli earlier this week after he faced mounting pressure from a nationwide movement spearheaded by Generation Z activists.
