Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill 2022
On 8th August, 2022, the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was passed by the Lok Sabha.
- It seeks to amend the Energy Conservation Act, 2001.
- The 2001 Act was last amended in 2010 to address various new factors that emerged with the energy market’s development over time and to provide for more efficient and effective use of energy and its conservation.

Obligation to use Non-fossil Sources of Energy
- Different consumption thresholds may be specified for different non-fossil sources and consumer categories.
- Government may require the designated consumers to meet a minimum share of energy consumption from non-fossil sources.
