23rd Law Commission
On 3rd September, 2024, President approved the formation of the 23rd Law Commission of India, which will operate from September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2027.
- The term of the 22nd Law Commission ended on 31st August, 2024.
Composition
- The 23rd Law Commission will comprise
- a full-time Chairperson;
- four full-time Members (including Member-Secretary);
- Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs as ex officio Member;
- Secretary, Legislative Department as ex officio Member; and
- not more than five part-time Members.
- Chairperson: The chairperson and members could be serving judges of the Supreme Court or High Courts or “other category of persons”.
