​23rd Law Commission

On 3rd September, 2024, President approved the formation of the 23rd Law Commission of India, which will operate from September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2027.

  • The term of the 22nd Law Commission ended on 31st August, 2024.

Composition

  • The 23rd Law Commission will comprise
    1. a full-time Chairperson;
    2. four full-time Members (including Member-Secretary);
    3. Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs as ex officio Member;
    4. Secretary, Legislative Department as ex officio Member; and
    5. not more than five part-time Members.
  • Chairperson: The chairperson and members could be serving judges of the Supreme Court or High Courts or “other category of persons”.
