SC Directions on Open Prisons
On 20th August, 2024, the Supreme Court (SC) directed states and Union Territories (UTs) to provide complete information with regard to the functioning of open prisons.
- The SC was hearing a plea filed by human rights activist Suhas Chakma flagging the issues of congestion of prisons, rehabilitation of prisoners and regarding legal aid in prisoners.
